As a long time Laker hater (Showtime days), I'm tempted to shout no like some of these others, but I'll refrain. I've been watching them closely in these playoffs and this team is young and scrappy, their bench is deep and they have Kobe. If Boston played San Antonio in the Finals, San Antonio wins in 5 or 6, but the Lakers finished San Antonio off in 5 games, and they could do the same to Boston, who's more talented, but not as tough or well coached as San Antonio was. So LA it is.
I have to say the LAKERS. They really do have what it takes to beat either team. Boston is great, but they have grotesque weaknesses that the lakers can sniff out and seize.Detroit plays jeckl and hyde basketball and has no real sense of consistencey. That much can be said of the celtics. The lakers also have the best away record and only detroit is close to matching that. Besides, The lakers took out the champs in 5 (no diesrespect to S.A). What makes you think they cant do the same to either team?
I don't think so, and I'm a Lakers' fan. Picking with my head, not my heart. The 2-3-2 format works against Lakers. Need at least a split on the road, not likely to sweep middle games at home, would still need to win again on the road to capture title. That's a lot to ask. Oh, and for the record, I pick Boston in the East.

yeah you do but i wouldnt go overboard. comebacks happen alot. especially after a really big lead. and they ended up losing in the end which isnt good enough. if they won then i would be mad impressed. i would even hate kobe a little less

It wasn't so much what the Lakers did in the 4th, it was what the Celtics didn't do. And that was continue to be aggressive and dominate the game until the very end.

Boston was lucky to end up pulling out the win. But no more lucky than LA to even have the opportunity of a comeback after they played so horribly most of the game. Sorry, but LA hasn't quite earned much yet.
Yeah they came alive in the fourth period. Now you notice at the end of the game Kobe still passed up the shot so Fisher could shoot the three so I had to give him some respect because I used to hate him from hearing this from the announcers: Kobe with the three-pointer ahh Kobe missed oh Kobe has the ball back and he makes the mid-range jumper. Looks like Kobe stole the ball from his own teammate" yah stealing the ball from your own teammate is not such a good idea.

i was watching, celtics were up 20 sum odd points with about 6 minutes left, i turned around and did some homework, i turn back and its a 2 possession game. i was shocked by both the lakers comeback and by the fackt boston let them get so close.

Lakers was able to come back because Celtics stopped playing. Once Boston realize that the game is not over yet, they played the game the way they should and was able to stopped Lakers.

They are a good team, right now along with the Spurs, they are playing the best basketball in the NBA. There are still some 20 games left though and with the race so close right now, they could drop to a 5 seed in a few games. I do think they or the Spurs will finish #1 in the West though. It is nice to see that The Lakers brass finally got Gasol to help out Kobe. Still, the Werst is going to be an extremely tough battle this year. Kobe is still the best player in the NBA.

Yes , there starting unit is very strong. Kobe and Fisher, one of the better guard combinations. Also one of the better frontlines, in Bynum,Gasol, and Odom. Walton , farmer, and Turiaf off the bench. Could use a shooter off the bench!
The Lakers have always been a great team! Their tradition is about winning championships - they've the 2nd most championships in NBA history and are the winningest team in NBA history. They are a franchise with a history of winning, some great loyal fans, and it looks like the Lakers are back!!!

i can't wait to hang a couple of more banners up in the Staples Center and hopefully we'll catch the Celtics for the most NBA championships by the end of the decade.

They have great chemistry and are playing hard which had been a little lacking the last couple of years. I really like the cast of players they have and with Ariza and Bynum coming back they can be a force to reckon with in the playoffs!

I do think they are a good team. I think at the moment they are playing some of the best basketball in the league. I think the Gasol trade has worked out really well, given them a good inside presence, given KB24 something to work with. I think when Bynum comes back, this trade will look even better than it does right now. They are playing a team oriented game which suits them a lot better. The pick and roll with Kobe and Gasol, is one of the most unstoppable moves in basketball right now. I do question their depth though. They are a really solid team through the first 7 players, but a little suspect after that. They should go deep in to the playoffs though....

Of course they have a good team they have good players at every position especially sense they got Gasol. They have a deep bench once they all get healthy and they're pretty good. Last but no least the Lakers have the best player on the planet on their team.
They are a good team now and I love it. The one season a few years back when they missed the playoffs, I lost all interest in the NBA postseason because I had no one to root against. Now they are back to the playoffs and they keep finding exciting new ways to lose a first round series. They are just good enough to make the playoffs, where they keep finding creative ways to falter. I love it.

Wow, that's pretty funny. But you have to think about it, Kobe's from Philly, but how long has he been in LA playing basketball? There's no chance, because they won't be able to take both games that are in Boston. Also, the Celtics have more star power and depth. The only people you can count on almost every game for a 25 points or more performance is Kobe Bryant. You can expect that most of the time from KG, Pierce, and Allen. Other than that, the Lakers are lucky to get 15 out of each starter.

Two things must happen in order to guarentee these teams in the finals....

Lakers: Kobe must raise his team up, he must increase their lvl of gameplay. He must become a TRUE leader just like Michael Jordan. If he does not...the experienced Spurs, or the heart led Suns i'm afraid will take them out.

Celtics: The Big Three must play with the emotion of a true championship team. These guys have never been there and this is there chance to shine....show what your made of, don't hold back.

I love the Lakers, and Spurs are aight. I began to like the Spurs because of how lame the Suns were last playoffs. So I enjoyed the rest of the playoffs with the spurs. I like them but I'm a Laker forever. And todays game with Spurs and New Orleans, I think they won it because of Tony Parkers arrival. And Lakers will fight for their wins. I think Lakers will be in the finals, but it ain't gonna matter who they against cause they on top of the world baby.

I think if any team in the West comes out on top, then they can beat the Eastern team. The West is tough and those teams are as tough as the Top 2 teams in the East. So I think the Lakers will win it if they were to match-up.

Looking at both rosters you can simply conclude that the Lakers team of today is a lot more athletic and talented then the Bulls roster of the second half of the 90's. While Michael Jordan and Kobe might cancel each other out the succeding players is not of equal talent with the one opposed to them.

Chicago has a number of sub-par players who rode Jordan and Pippen's glory, players like: Randy Brown, Luc Longley, Bill Wennington and a certain Matt Steigenga (who I doubt ever played a single game in the league) would absolutely be overmatched when pitted against the likes of Shasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar, Luke Walton, Ronnie Turiaf, Trevor Ariza, DJ Mbenga, Ira Newble, Andrew Bynum and Chris Mihm.

Overall this Lakers team is much superior than the Bulls team.

Yes. Now we know it's Boston, so we can focus on that. Obviously I'm a biased Laker fan, but from what I've seen they have what it takes against the big three. first the keys to the game:

-KG cannot be touched in passion and intensity, if Odom pulls a no show, or Gasol keeps playing like a school girl, they will get owned.

-yes boston took the two regular season games, but the last one was in January. Anyone who has paid attention to the season can see that this is a far superior Laker team to the one in January ( plus they won't be playing in short shorts)

-the celtics have been pushed to the brink nearly 3 times already. does that mean they're inconsistent? maybe, but they are in the finals, so it also means they know how to fight.

Now, why the lakers will win

-Boston has a stiffling defense. But so did the spurs. The spurs game plan was to keep the lakers from scoring 110 points a game, which they did...and still lost 4-1.

-I can't even keep count with the amount of times I have seen 1:30 left in the third in a celtics game, and they have less than 55 points. You need a lot more than that against a western conf. team

-the celtics have played some of the most lopsided sub-par teams during the regular season and post ( except detroit) if they had to deal with 4 games each this year with the 10 contenders in the west, they would not have the best record in the league. on the other hand, the nuggets were an offensive beast, the jazz played smooth team oriented basket ball, and the spurs are one of the most fundamentally sound, best defensive teams ever, yet couldn't stop the lakers rally twice from 20, and 17 points behind

-if you took the lakers bench and made them all starters on another team, they could possibly make the playoffs, no bench in the league can touch them

-and finally, Kobe. the best in the game, playing his best season, and one of the top 5 players of all time. Paul Pierce is great, but he maybe has one game where he can dump 25 on you in the second half. Kobe has seven.

No. The real reason Shaq left is because Miami was willing to pay him the money he wanted and LA wasn't. Shaq wanted a 5 year deal worth an average of 30 mil. a year. Most likely it's a non guaranteed contract. I believe that the contract that the Lakers gave Coby Carl is also non guaranteed. This just gives the Lakers the option to bring some guys to camp, throw some cash at them, and see if there is anyone that stands out in camp. So it does not necessarily mean there is a trade in the works, but could mean something. I'm going to keep my ear to the ground, and wait to hear something a bit more definite. I think Bynum is about all LA has for their future. e is a good player. The lakers have had Jerry West, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille Oneal, Kobe Bryant, Byron Scott, Karl Malone( even though he didnt do much), and Wilt Chamberlain! What about the Clippers? NONE!
Unless the clippers start pulling in some star power like the Lakers, Jack Nicholson and others they wont be as popular. If they win a couple of titles in a row then maybe they will be able to gain a little popularity but not much. LA only likes winners, so even if the Clippers win 70 games next year if they dont win a title they will always be in the shadow of the Lakers.

They are steadily gaining support because of their newfound talent and success and the Laker's dropping (although they are slowly climbing back). But the Lakers have history in LA. I don't think any of the locker rooms are better than the other. The Staples Center has 12 locker rooms, some of which are team specific for all of the professional sports teams that use the facility.

I think if that does happen, its gonna be a HARD series. I think that they will take it to 6 or 7 games. Hopefully, the HORNETS will come out on top. The Lakers have more experience, but they are so OVER RATED!! I think it all depends on who has first game home court advantage... Hornets play at home first, it will most likely be them, Lakers play at home first, it will likely be them.....
